Driver in custody after car crashes into house in Broad Street, Sheerness

A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a car smashed into a house and through the front windows.

The 57-year-old is in police custody following the crash which happened in Broad Street, Sheerness, at around 5.30pm on Saturday (June 15).

In a video posted on Facebook, one man describes how the vehicle came around the corner before clipping another car and crashing into the two-storey house.

A streetlight which was hit in the collision, near the junction with Railway Road, could also be seen resting on a brick wall.

Images show about seven firefighters at the scene, with red tape cordoning off the area.

The road was closed while the emergency services dealt with the aftermath.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 5.21pm on Saturday, June 15 to reports that a car had collided with a residential property on Broad Street, Sheerness.

“Officers attended the scene with colleagues from Kent Fire and Rescue and the Southeast Coast Ambulance Service.

“A 57-year-old man was arrested at the scene and remains in custody on suspicion of dangerous driving.”
