Terrifying footage shows the moment a brown bear tried to claw its way into a car full of Russians after they broke down.

The beast climbed onto the bonnet of the Honda C-RV, which was stationed on a remote stretch of the road.

Videos taken by the front-seat passenger show the bear rocking the vehicle and tearing off a windscreen wiper.

The driver blasted the horn and revved the engine in an attempt to scare the young bear, which seemed unphased as it scratched at the windows.

‘He’s about to climb onto the car,’ said a female voice can be heard, speaking in Russian.

‘That’s it, he climbed onto the car!’

The three adults, two women and one man, were waiting to be rescued after the SUV’s clutch failed on Sakhalin, Russia.

When the bear finally got off the car, it can be seen tearing off the windscreen on the drivers side, as a woman said: ‘No, not the wiper’.

The driver, seemingly relieved the trio had not been attacked, replied ‘To hell with it’.

The predator eventually vanished, and later was seen lying on the side of the road.

It is believed the bear’s behaviour may be linked to drivers feeding bears on remote roads, which has led to them coming closer to cars than in the past.

Russian grizzly bears, or Ussuri brown bears, are one of the largest subspecies of brown bear, with males weighing around 389kg.
