On Saturday 15th June, seven brave athletes and two parent volunteers overlooked by coach James Bridge, travelled to Lewes, East Sussex, for the second competition of the Southern Athletics League.

To say conditions were far from ideal would be an understatement, with competitors battling 40mph winds and occasional downpours throughout the day.

All athletes put in an extremely good showing, teaming up and covering events on top of the ones they traditionally train for to gain those vital extra points for the league tables. This meant that despite being the smallest team there on the day, they managed to come away with a very respectable 6th place out of the 8 teams that attended.

We would like to give a notable mention to Imogen Davis, Aston Fredericks and Bethany Shimmen-Smith for their seasons best performances. A particular well done must be given to Amelia Lawton for a new hammer PB of 37.19m (video above).

A thank you must also be given to Rich Faraday for his officiating duties and Nick Purt for team management.

Our next competition is on Sunday 14th July.
