Update: Further Arrests Made Following Firearms Discharge in Birkby, Huddersfield

Two more people have been arrested in connection with the firearms discharge on Blacker Road, Birkby on Tuesday evening (14/9).

A 33-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man were arrested this morning (Friday 17 September) on suspicion of attempted murder. They remain in police custody.

This is in addition to the two previous arrests – of a 29-year-old male arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a 53-year-old female arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They both remain in police custody at this time.

Detective are continuing with enquiries into the incident and are still appealing to members of the public who may have any information to come forward.

Anyone with information, who has not yet spoken to police, is asked to contact the Major Enquiry Team on 101 quoting crime reference 13210468309.

Wednesday 15 September 2021 

Detectives are appealing for information following a firearms discharge in the Birkby area of Huddersfield last night (14/09).

At 9.04pm, police received reports of a male who had been injured following an alleged firearms discharge outside a takeaway on Blacker Road.

Officers attended and found a 28-year-old male with minor injuries to his shoulder consistent with a firearms discharge.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

Enquiries remain ongoing at this time.

A scene is currently in place on Blacker Road, whilst specialist examination work is carried out.

Detective Inspector Matthew Holdsworth of the Major Enquiry Team said:

“Our enquiries are in the initial stages and we are very keen to hear from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area of Blacker Road last night.

“We recognise that incidents of this nature will cause understandable concern in the local community and we are liaising with our colleagues on the local neighbourhood policing team who will be visible in the area to reassure people.

“The criminal use of firearms on the streets is something that we will always treat extremely seriously, and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify those responsible.
