Detectives investigating the murder of a woman in Bradford have named a man who is wanted on suspicion of the offence.  

Police are appealing for members of the public to report any sightings of Habibur Masum, 25, who is from the Oldham area. He is wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of a woman in the Westgate area of Bradford city centre yesterday afternoon (Saturday, 6 April)

 

The victim was with her baby, who was in a pram, at the time of the attack. The baby was not harmed.

The victim and suspect are known to each other.  

He is described as an Asian man, of slim build. He is pictured on CCTV wearing a duffle coat with three large horizontal lines of grey, white and black, light blue or grey tracksuit bottoms with a small black emblem on the left pocket and maroon trainers. A witness also reported seeing him wearing a grey hoody with the hood up.

He is believed to have links to the Burnley and Chester areas.

 

 

 

Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Enquiry Team, said: “We have had significant resources following up a number of lines of enquiry to locate Habibur Masum but at this time his whereabouts are unknown.  

“A knife was recovered from the scene of the murder, but we cannot say if Habibur Masum is armed, and I would urge anyone who does see him not to approach him but to call 999 immediately.  

“If anyone has any information about his movements or whereabouts since 3:20pm on Saturday please contact police as a matter of urgency.

“We understand that the murder of a young woman in such shocking circumstances has caused considerable concern in the local community. Residents can expect to continue to see a significant police presence in Bradford as we make further enquiries and conduct reassurance patrols in the area.”

West Yorkshire Police has launched a murder investigation following the stabbing of a woman in Bradford city centre earlier today (Saturday, 6 April).

Police were called to Westgate at the junction with Drewton Road at 3:21pm to reports that a woman had been stabbed by a man who then fled the scene. She was taken to hospital and subsequently died of her injuries.

She is yet to be formally identified but is understood to be a 27-year-old woman. Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “This is a shocking incident that has happened in broad daylight in a busy area of Bradford and been witnessed by a number of people.

“A young woman has lost her life in the most awful circumstances, and we have extensive enquiries ongoing to locate and arrest the man responsible, who is understood to be known to the victim.

“We know this incident will understandably cause concern in the local community, and I would like to reassure the wider public that we are working tirelessly to investigate this horrendous crime and bring the person responsible to justice.

“To help us with this we are urging anyone who was in the area who may have dashcam footage or seen or heard something, however small it may seem, to please come forward.  

“A scene remains in place which includes some road closures and I thank the public for their patience while we conduct our enquiries.”

Detectives are investigating after a woman was seriously assaulted in Bradford city centre.

Police were called to Westgate at the junction with Drewton Road at 3:21pm today to reports that a woman had been stabbed. She was taken to hospital with significant injuries.

A scene is in place, which includes road closures on Drewton Road, Westgate (between Drewton Road and Lumb Lane) and Wigan Street, and members of the public are urged to avoid the area if possible at this time.  

Extensive enquiries are ongoing and local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area.
