Black and ethnic minority women who are victims of domestic violence are being failed by the authorities – and that’s contributing to them losing their lives.

New research by the Centre for Women’s Justice has found barriers to reporting abuse to police as well as other forms of discrimination preventing victims from coming forward.

Raneem Oudeh and her mother Khaola Saleem, were murdered outside their home in Solihull by Raneem’s estranged husband in 2018. An inquest into their deaths later found that multiple errors and ‘missed opportunities’ by West Midlands police contributed to their deaths.

Earlier, we spoke to Nour Norris, who is Raneem Oudeh’s aunt – and Harriet Wistrich – from the Centre for Women’s Justice.
