A picture of the area shows the silver vehicle, which has damage to its front, stranded in the middle of the road at the junction.

A witness reported seeing an ambulance and fire engine at the scene.

“It’s chaotic,” they told KentOnline just after 1pm.

“Cars are having to turn around in the road because the road down to Wye is shut and the A28 is closed.”

Traffic app Inrix reported at the time that there was queueing traffic due to the crash with the route being blocked.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service confirmed crews were called shortly after 1pm following reports of a crash involving two vehicles.

It is understood the incident has cleared.

The police have also been contacted for comment.

The A28 is closed further along the road towards Canterbury due to gas works meaning cars are diverted along the A251 to Challock and A252 to Chilham to rejoin the A28.
