Multiple bus shelters on the Island have been vandalised on the Island in the past month.

Glass has been smashed at at least five of waiting areas on the Isle of Sheppey, including stops in Queenborough and Halfway, within the past fortnight.

Cllr Cameron Beart slammed the “mindless vandalism” which has taken place in Main Road, Castlemere Avenue, Uplands Way, Worcester Close and Noreen Avenue.

The Tory councillor was originally told about a bus shelter in Main Road being targeted on Sunday, Novmber 13, and another three just two weeks later opposite Scrapsgate, as well as in Minster Road and Noreen Avenue.

He said: “I can’t say they are all linked, nor that they were all deliberate, but mindless vandalism does look like the most likely cause and I would encourage anyone who may have information to report it to the police.

“It is frustrating, it costs the taxpayer money in clean up and then the bus stop owner has to pay to repair them.

“It most of these cases it is a commercial company but sometimes that cost would fall again to the taxpayer as some bus stops are maintained by parish and town councils.

“This is at least five bus stops in a fortnight that have been vandalised with extensive damage done to the one at Scrapsgate over the weekend.”

Cllr Beart explained the incidents were reported to Swale Council and officers arranged for Biffa to clean up the broken glass.

The Community Safety Unit (CSU) was also made aware of the damage.

Kent Police said they had received no reports from members of the public about the damage.
