Doctor Who fans can now officially start counting down the days until they’ll get to see Ncuti Gatwa starring in his first full season.

Last year the Sex Education star, 31, made his debut in the long-running franchise, being introduced in the final of three specials that saw former Time Lord David Tennant return to the role.

His dramatic reveal as the Fifteenth Doctor left many fans ‘in tears’ watching the groundbreaking regeneration scene.

Now the BBC has revealed when the upcoming season is set to hit screens.

The eight-eight episodes will kick off on May 11, with the first two available to watch on BBC iPlayer from midnight.

They will then screen that evening too for those who manage to not binge them the second they drop, airing just before the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final.

At the same time, those outside of the UK will be able to watch the Doctor and Ruby (Millie Gibson) on their epic adventures on Disney Plus.

The new season comes after the pair made their highly acclaimed debut on Christmas Day in The Church on Ruby Road.

Within the upcoming season, audiences will see the Doctor and Ruby travel through time and space on adventures to unknown lands, to the Regency era in England, to outer space worlds and the sixties.

It will also see the return of Michelle Greenidge as Carla Sunday, Angela Wynter as Cherry Sunday and Anita Dobson as Mrs Flood.

There will also be an array of special guests including Jinkx Monsoon, Aneurin Barnard, Yasmin Finney, Jonathan Groff, Bonnie Langford, Jemma Redgrave, Lenny Rush and Indira Varma.

Sharing his excitement about the announcement, showrunner Russell T Davies said it was his ‘great delight’ to ‘unleash a whole new season of the Doctor and Ruby’s adventures together’.

‘Monsters!  Chases!  Villains!  Mysteries!  And a terrifying secret that’s been spanning time and space for decades. Don’t miss a second!’ he added.

When the new season arrives, for the first-time viewers in the UK will also now be able to choose to stream the episodes at midnight or tune in at primetime on Saturday nights on BBC One.

Doctor Who returns on Saturday May 11 to the BBC.
