ANDY MURRAY remains in the dark this Easter weekend about the exact length of his injury layoff.

Last Sunday, the Scotsman severely damaged two ankle ligaments in his exit from the third round of the Miami Open.

Muzza, 36, ruptured his ATFL (anterior talofibular ligament) and CFL (calcaneofibular ligament) in the closing games of his defeat in Florida to Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic.

Following consultation with his team and medical experts over the past few days, the former world No.1 has now pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters, which starts on Monday April 8.

And he will also not be involved in the BMW Open in Munich, which is scheduled for the week after the South of France event.

His team say “it is still not clear how long Andy will be out of action” as he continues to review options with his medical team.

A spokesperson for 77 Group said: “Obviously this is very disappointing news for Andy (to miss these tournaments) and he has reiterated his desire to get back on court as soon as possible.

“He thanks all his fans for their kind messages of support and will continue to update everybody as the situation evolves.”

It is 13 weeks until the start of the Wimbledon Championships, which were set to be his 16th and final appearance at SW19.

Surgery is the nuclear option, which would essentially end his prospects of saying goodbye to Centre Court fans this July.

Murray had planned to play the French Open one more time but that is in doubt as he awaits results of his ankle scans.

The three-time Grand Slam champion is going to hang up his racquet at the end of the summer but no official end-date has been pinpointed.

And an appearance on clay at the Paris Olympics is in jeopardy due to his world ranking of 62 being outside of the automatic cut-off point.
