War and propaganda have always gone hand in hand, but in the age of social media, harmful misinformation has so many more ways to proliferate, and can get around the world faster than ever.

Today the EU urged the bosses of Twitter, Facebook and other platforms to curb the spread of fake news, warning that a failure to do so would break European law and risk fines or being banned altogether.
