Hull and East Riding coronavirus cases fall but more hospital deaths recorded

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in Hull and the East Riding sharply fell in the last 24 hours.

In the city, just 43 new cases were confirmed in the latest round of figures released by the Government, while 66 positive tests were carried out in the neighbouring East Riding.

Figures released on Friday showed 168 cases in the previous 24 hours but Saturday’s stats included an increase of just 109.

The cumulative infection rate in Hull and the East Riding now stands at 6,079 and 4,425.6 respectively.

However, East Yorkshire’s death toll is still rising.

Across Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital, the death toll now stands at 669 since the pandemic began – up four from Friday.

Two of the newly recorded deaths occurred on Friday, with a further two split between Wednesday and Thursday.

Nationally, tThe Government confirmed a further 1,200 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Saturday, bringing the UK total to 105,571.
