Two lanes were initially closed, but one lane reopened at about 4.30pm. The other was clear by about 5.15pm.

National Highways said earlier there were about four miles of congestion on the approach to the lane closures, adding 30 minutes to normal journey times.

At one point, congestion was said to have been stretching back to the other side of the QE2 bridge.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 3.08pm on Saturday 17 December 2022 to a report of a collision involving two vehicles between junction 2 and 3 of the M25.”

No one is thought to have been seriously injured.
