On Friday, many of them were present at the Nepalese Community Centre in South Park for the banner’s dedication.

Also present were the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Gordon Newton, and the chairman of the Maidstone branch of the Royal British Legion, Cllr Dave Naghi, who brought along RBL standard bearers.

The chairman of the Gurkha association, Captain Mohan Tamang, who retired after 26 years serving with the British Army, said it was a proud moment.

Cllr Naghi said: “Their motto is ‘Better to die than to be a coward’ which just about sums them up.”
