Former first-round pick on the open market, part two

Davis, 25, is set to be a free agent next offseason after the Commanders’ decision to decline his fifth-year option, per Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala.

The report added that the move “should come as no surprise” as the option would make the defender one of the highest-paid linebackers by average salary in the NFL.

Davis had carried a $14.8 million option for the 2025.

The same report noted that new Commanders linebackers Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner are set to start over Davis.

Those moves were made by Washington’s new general manager Adam Peters along with new defensive-minded head coach Dan Quinn.
