But for her it’s even more sweet knowing that she can say she has never missed a day of it.

Maddie, who is now preparing to start Newland School for Girls in September, has followed in the footsteps of her 13-year-old brother Finlay after he also made the impressive milestone when he was in primary school too.

Maddie’s teacher Fabienne Seager said it is remarkable: “Maddie has done exceptionally well for coming to school every single day throughout her time at primary.

“It has had a significant impact upon her amazing progress. Throughout her time at Thoresby, Maddie has developed many leadership qualities which have set her up for a fantastic start into early adulthood.

“Even through the difficult times that we have faced this year, Maddie has shown resilience and determination facing all problems with a positive attitude. This is an incredible achievement and we are so proud of her.”

Maddie’s teacher described her achievement as “very unique”.

“She is the only child in the year group (out of 75) to have achieved this and has amazingly followed in her brother’s footsteps, who also had 100 per cent attendance.”

The school held a celebratory leavers’ assembly where Maddie was recognised among all of Year 6, their parents and staff and received a trophy. She is also being recognised in the school’s newsletter.

Maddie’s mum Helen Bettison, 52, said she is very proud of her daughter – and son’s – achievement.

“We are proud beyond belief,” she said. “She’s done amazing. Maddie has had a treat at Caffe Gelato but I think both of them [Maddie and her brother] deserve a treat because they have done fantastically well.”

She said Maddie now has plans to continue her 100 per cent attendance in secondary school too.

“I think they’ve obviously got good genes,” her mum joked.

“She has already said she is going to carry it on [at secondary school]. We are going to keep everything crossed that she can achieve it.”

Maddie said it has been “great” to follow in her brother’s footsteps.

“I’m really proud of myself and my parents are super happy, my brother Finlay, now 13, got 100 per cent when he left two years ago so it’s great to follow in his footsteps,” she said. “I hope to carry it on into secondary school.”
