KEEPING your entire home can be a full time job, so why make it harder than it needs to be?

That’s why one mum has shared the things she refuses to have in her home since they are so tricky to keep clean.

Taryn Maria took to YouTube to share her list and explained why they’re such a night mare to deal with.

“These are very high maintenance items,” she said.

Tile countertops

Although she admitted she doesn’t have them anymore, the cleaning whizz said when she did have them in her home they were almost never spotless.

Whether they’re in your kitchen or bathroom, Taryn recommended avoiding them at all costs since dirt and grime can get stuck in the grout, which you’ll also have to spend ages scrubbing.

Detailed tabletops

If you want to give your tabletop a quick wipe down and then call it a day, details like grooves and grains aren’t for you.

Crumbs will inevitably get jammed in the details and you’ll have to use a toothpick to get them out, or use the nozzle on your vacuum cleaning to suck them out.

“It’s so not a good look for your kitchen table,” she said.

Black tables

Taryn said she used to have a black table but eventually ditched it because she “became so fed up with it.”

The problem, according to the cleaning whizz, is that it will never ever look clean.

“Even if you’ve just cleaned it, it will show every spec of dust, every finger print, every crumb,” she said.

Painted matte cabinets

Matte paint is also something you should steer clear of, Taryn said, since it shows every spec of dirt.

Not only that, but since you’re constantly touching your cupboards you’ll never be able to keep on top of removing fingerprints from them

Square sinks

Sure, they might look quite swanky, but Taryn said square sinks are a total nightmare to keep clean.

“All of the dirt migrates to those corners and gets stuck there so you can’t just wipe it out,” the cleaning whizz explained.

Copper sinks

“They’re very beautiful but then when you start using them they get dirty and start to get water spots, they get stained,” Taryn said.

Copper also needs to be cleaned using different products, which can be a pain.

Stainless steel appliances

They might look sleek when you first get them, but stainless steel appliances like fridge freezers, kettles and toasters are pretty high maintenance.

That said, the pro noted that you can buy “fingerprintless stainless steel” which helps keep it looking spotless.

Textured vinyl flooring

Vinyl flooring is a great and cheap alternative to other materials, but certain designs have dints and grooves in them to mimic the natural grooves in wood.

The problem is these grooves fill with dirt and grime and can be tricky to clean, Taryn said.

“Go for something smooth than can be easily steam cleaned or vacuumed,” she added

Ornate lampshdes

Any kind of ornate lampshade will be a total dust magnet, but Taryn said trendy pleated ones are especially bad.

She explained that she likes to clean her lampshades with a lint roller, but you can’t get behind each pleat that way, so it takes loads longer.

Glass top coffee tables

“They get dirty on the top, they get dirty on the bottom,” Taryn explained.

There’s no avoiding the dust and fingerprints on these coffee tables, so something wooden is the preferred option if you hate cleaning.

Individual glass pane French doors

French doors are tricky to clean as it is, but if you have the type with lots of different square panes of glass surrounded by wooden boarders, it’s bad news.

Cleaning each glass pane individually will undoubtedly take at least twice as long, Taryn said.

Tufted furniture

Dust and grime often gathers in the little tufted dents, which makes cleaning this type of furniture pretty longwinded.

“You’ve got to vacuum it and if you don’t [the dirt] sticks in there and you’ll never get it out,” the mum said.

Non-removable cushion covers

Whether they’re throw cushions of part of your sofa, you’ll want to make sure you can remove them to make cleaning a breeze.

If you can’t remove them and they get particularly you may have to fork out to have them professionally cleaned, which can cost a pretty penny.

Microfibre sofa

“That microfibre material is so static it will pull in all he dust and all the dirt, if you’ve got pets, forget about it,” Taryn explained.

Instead, the cleaning whizz suggested going for something that will easily hide dirt and can be wiped down quickly.

Fake plants

Sure, they might mean you never have to worry about remembering to water them, but fake plants come with their fare share of problems.

One of the main issues is that they gather dust pretty quickly, so you’ll have to wipe all the leaves down a lot.

Jute rugs

They’re pretty trendy, but jute rugs are another high maintenance item you should avoid, as far as the cleaning pro is concered.

“They shed all over, you’ll have one in your entryway but wonder why you’re finding pieces of rug up in your bedroom,” Taryn warned.

Small area rugs

Having a lot of small rugs means you’ll have twice the work when it comes to cleaning them.

If you want a rug stick to one large rug in the centre of the room, that way you can clean it in one go.

Light-coloured upholstered headboards

Upholstered headboards look posh, but if you go for a light coloured fabric keeping them clean is almost impossible.

Instead, go for a dark fabric, or stick to materials like wood and metal.

Wicker wastebaskets

The issue with wicker baskets is you can’t easily wash them out if they get dirty.

Sure, you can put in a plastic bag, but they can often tear and leak, meaning you’ll be left with a big mess on your hands.
