VIOLENCE on London’s Underground has risen by 75 per cent in the past two years under mayor Sadiq Khan.

British Transport Police figures show 3,542 incidents on the Tube in the 12 months to last November.

That is compared to 2,029 in the same period two years ago.

Robberies were up 182 per cent, from 261 to 736.

Some 909 sexual offences were committed on the Tube in the year, up from 622 in 2021.

Lib Dem MP Sarah Olney, who researched the figures, blamed Mr Khan for the lawless Underground.

She told The Sun on Sunday: “Violent crime is becoming a much bigger anxiety for my constituents.

“That has to do with falling numbers of police officers on the streets and not being able to get hold of them.

“The Government and the Mayor of London cannot stand by and let this happen.”

Transport for London said youngsters are being mugged for their Canada Goose jackets — which can be worth up to £1,500 — their phones and Apple AirPods.

British Transport Police partly blamed the figures on traveller numbers returning to pre-Covid levels.

Its head of crime and public protection, Det Chief Supt Paul Furnell, said: “Public safety is our number one priority and our officers are working hard to deter and detect crime.”

Mr Khan’s spokesman said: “The safety of women and girls is an absolute priority for the mayor and TfL.”
