Woman shares note from neighbour who stole her flowers – and is praised for her reply

News Hour

Flowers were recently stolen from a woman’s garden and a note was left for her explaining why.

The heartwarming letter was sent by a neighbour, who also left a gift to make up for their thievery.

The unnamed woman from Sydney’s Sutherland Shire shared a look at the note on Facebook and also included her reply and the whole thing is so sweet that it has brought people to tears.

According to the handwritten message, the neighbour wasn’t stealing the flowers to be malicious or for personal gain – they were intended for her goddaughter’s wedding.

A mix up at the flower market had meant the bride-to-be wasn’t going to have a bouquet of beautiful flowers on her big day, so they had to improvise quickly to help her find something to use.

She spotted her neighbour’s garden full of beautiful flowers and knew they would be perfect for the special occasion.

Shared on social media, on a Sutherland Shire community Facebook group, the note read: “Hi Neighbour, I live around the corner and my goddaughter is getting married tomorrow.

“Sadly the flower market is closed so we couldn’t get the flowers we wanted. I came to ask if we could have three of your hydrangeas but no one answered the door.

“I hope you don’t mind but I took three little ones off your amazing plants which are covered with flowers! (I have left these chocolates in exchange).

“You are our lifesaver and will make the wedding day tomorrow that bit more special. Thank you, Michelle.”

The woman was far from annoyed about the flowers being taken, instead, she had the kindest response.

She said: “More than happy for you to take as many flowers as you need.

“Please come and grab some more if you like – even if you want some for table decorations etc please take as many as you want.”

Many people praised the woman for this “heartwarming” gesture and claimed it showed “humanity at its best”.

One user wrote: “So beautiful! Reading this has made me cry! You are a beautiful neighbour.”
