Google reveals major YouTube crackdown, part three

Like with regular TV, YouTube serves up ads to generate money that funds the service.

And it also pays some of these ad earnings to creators who fill the app with content.

But many users prefer to use ad-blocking apps to avoid the ads.

But Google says this can’t continue, and will now prevent users from watching videos if they’re taking advantage of these apps.

“We’re strengthening our enforcement on third-party apps that violate YouTube’s Terms of Service, specifically ad-blocking apps,” a YouTube spokesperson explained.

“Viewers who are using these third-party apps may experience buffering issues or see the error ‘The following content is not available on this app’ when trying to watch a video.

“We want to emphasize that our terms don’t allow third-party apps to turn off ads because that prevents the creator from being rewarded for viewership, and Ads on YouTube help support creators and let billions of people around the world use the streaming service.”

Google reveals major YouTube crackdown, part one

Google is launching a fresh crackdown on a popular trick used to avoid ads on YouTube – the search engine giant will now block you from watching videos if you break the rule.

Google is targeting ad-blocking apps on your smartphone.

These apps are designed to let you watch YouTube videos without having to endure ads.

Reports have dropped

After over 15,200 YouTube users reported problems with the app, reports have now begun to drop, per Downdetector.

Around 340 users are still reporting issues.

Users say it’s back up

YouTube users on Downdetector say that the platform is back up and running.

“It’s back up for me! Anyone else?” one wrote.

“It’s back up. But the play list library drop down is gone on the left side of the screen,” another added.
