Dispersal order in Sheerness and Sittingbourne after reports of anti-social behaviour

News Hour

A dispersal order is set to be in place in two towns plagued by anti-social behaviour this weekend.

Reports of trouble from residents and traders in Sheerness and Sittingbourne have prompted the action, scheduled from midday tomorrow (April 27) to midday Monday (April 29).

More officers will be on patrol in Marine Parade, Trinity Road, Broadway, the High Street, and Beach Street in Sheerness while Sittingbourne will see a greater police presence in West Street, Station Road, Milton Road, the High Street, and the Eurolink retail park.

The dispersal orders give officers additional powers to move on anyone causing a nuisance in or between the specified roads.

Where necessary, they will arrest those who choose to return to the area once dispersed.

Inspector Vanessa Foster said: “Our officers are committed to ensuring residents, businesses owners, and visitors feel safe when visiting Swale, and we will not tolerate disorderly conduct or anti-social behaviour committed by a minority of people.

“Constables will be patrolling the specified areas and anyone found causing a nuisance or disturbance will be instructed to leave. Those who return to cause further issues can expect to be detained.”
