Jake Connor on his SIX assists, his Hull FC determination and Lee Radford

It’s a good job Jake Connor prefers setting tries up over scoring them.

The full-back claimed a whopping six try assists on Saturday afternoon as Hull FC got back to winning ways with an emphatic 48-16 win over Salford Red Devils.

The Black and Whites scored nine tries in total on the day as Cam Scott and Jordan Lane both grabbed braces, while Darnell McIntosh, Joe Lovodua, Josh Reynolds and Chris Satae also touched down to secure Hull’s second win of the season.

Connor got over the line himself, too, to hammer home FC’s dominance at the start of the second half, but it was his creativity at the MKM Stadium that sent Brett Hodgson and the Hull fans home happy over the weekend.

“I think it was six, I wasn’t counting,” a beaming Connor joked after the game.

“I genuinely love it. I get more of a buzz out of setting someone up. If someone’s near the tryline and I’ve got a walk in, I’ll probably pass it.

“I think the Chrissy one [was my favourite] where I put him over, we did it twice in training this week and once in the warm up, you don’t want to be tackling on the tryline if he’s steaming onto it, so I just gave him the ball.”

Connor was making his return to the side after missing last week’s clash with St Helens due to the one-game suspension he received for a high tackle in the club’s round one game against Wakefield Trinity.

“Obviously last week missing the Saints game, it made me a bit hungrier to go out there and enjoy it. I’m not going to play forever so the games I do miss, I want to make up for,” he added.

“We know we were off it last week and we didn’t have the players out there that we wanted but that’s how the game goes.

“We had a good week’s training and we videoed Salford pretty well, we stuck to the game plan this week and it paid off for us.

“You want a reaction when you lose a game, especially like that, so I think we got a reaction from everyone, everyone stuck to the game plan, did what they needed to do and we were all in sync with each other.”

The result means FC move into March on a wave of confidence and they’ll certainly fancy their chances this weekend as they prepare to be reunited with some familiar faces.

Round four sees Hull travel to Wheldon Road to take on Lee Radford’s Castleford Tigers, who are still waiting for their first win of the year, and Connor can’t wait to get out on the field once more.

“We’re up against our old mates Radders and Lasty and it’s one I’ve been looking forward to,” he added with a grin. “We’re ready to go to the The Jungle and get the result there.”
