A man who has gone viral for repeatedly slagging off Kent may have finally found a town in the county he actually likes.

Phil Carr, whose rants are viewed hundreds of thousands of times on TikTok and other social media sites, has now turned his attention to Ashford.

The comedian uploaded a three-minute video to Facebook yesterday which has already been viewed more than 18,000 times.

The 38-year-old begins by describing himself having a hate-hate relationship with the county, but says on this occasion he is going to “to be positive about this Kent town”.

While he still takes a few cheeky digs at Ashford during the video, he is far less scathing than in his reviews of other parts of the county – some of which he has described as “worse than prison colonies”.

Starting in the town centre, he praises the bandstand (albeit noting the lack of any muscians) and its friendship stone.

He also praises Ashford International railway station and its high-speed service.

“They have a lovely bandstand. Christ knows where the actual band is, probably been stolen and is now up for sale on Gumtree,” he says.

“They have this huge friendship stone which is incredible.

“Ashford has an international train station which is pretty cool. Not many towns in the country have one of those.

“But it got lucky, as it sits between London and the Channel Tunnel.”

Mr Carr also recognises the “hugely important M20”.

“This brings all the road traffic in and out of mainland Europe, which makes Ashford the doormat of England,” he quips.

The comedian has previously ripped into towns all over Kent, including the likes of Canterbury, Sheerness, Dover and Chatham in his tongue-in-cheek posts.

However in his latest video, Mr Carr, who is from Epsom, appears to be taking a different tone.

“Ashford has an original First World War tank,” he says.

“They are very proud of the tank. They put a little roof over it and put signs up to stop kids climbing on it.”

Mr Carr continues his praise of the town by mentioning its “crucial” role in both world wars.

He adds: “Ashford is so important for transport in and out of the continent that it was bombed heavily during the war.

“I just hope at some point they actually get round to rebuilding the place!”

He quickly adds: “I’m joking, Kent residents. Calm down!”

The father-of-one is known for counting the amount of Wetherspoons each town is home to and here he notes The George Hotel in the town centre.

Mr Carr also points out the Lidl, Aldi and Iceland “which looks hilariously like a nightclub”.

Mr Carr then visits “the jewel in Ashford’s crown”, the Outlet – while perhaps mocking the brands which the county’s residents consider to be “designer”.

“Normally I hate designer outlet villages. They are a desperate roll of the dice by irrelevant towns,” he said.

“This is different though. This is Kent and the county has a has a very different variation on what designer actually is.”

Mr Carr ends the video on a few more positives around Ashford by taking a look at the Curious Brewery which he says “looks worth a visit” and is impressed by the McDonald’s, Burger King and KFC being “within a tennis balls throw of each other”.

He adds: “There you go, I don’t think I was too harsh!”

However, not everyone who watched the video agrees with Mr Carr’s assessment of the town.

Lance Pearce writes: “Ashford, the place where people that work in London can eventually afford to buy a house then when they move in, instantly regret it.”

Others say he was “far too nice”.

But one fan writes: “Love Ashford – moved down from London 9 years ago and never looked back.”

Mr Carr replies: “Were you on the run?”
