Volunteers helped rescued three people after their yacht ran aground.

Crews at Sheerness RNLI were alerted to the stuck vessell at 12.50pm yesterday (Monday) by the Coastguard.

It was reported that a yacht with five people onboard was aground on Long Reach in the Swale.

Having located the casualty, thw crew took three people off and landed them at Queenborough.

The other two remained on board and once it had re-floated later on the incoming tide it was escorted to safety by Queenborough Harbour Trust’s trot boat, piloted by Steve, an all-weather lifeboat crew member.

It was one of three callouts for the team over the long weekend.

On Sunday, the crew were diverted by the Coastguard whilst on exercise to check a yacht that was aground near Darnet Ness.

Having located the craft and made contact to check all was OK the yacht crew said they were happy to remain onboard their craft until it refloated on the incoming tide.

And later that afternoon, they were tasked again at 1.30pm to reports of people on Grain Tower.

However they were unable to reach the tower due to the low water conditions.

Having informed the Coastguard further information reported that a member of the Medway Coastguard Rescue team managed to walk out to the tower and asked the people to go ashore.
