Festival of Cats

April 25-28, Pie Factory Gallery Margate, 11am-5pm

Festival of Cats returns with its biggest ever exhibition of cat art from local, national and international artists. This feline themed festival started from a love of T.S.Eliot’s book of poetry – “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’ and much like the book, the festival celebrates the psychology, sociology and whimsy of cats.

The exhibition will feature paintings, prints, photography, sculpture, and textiles. Curated by Helen Pitman and Jemma Channing.

Kitten Corner Crafts: Free creative activities, cat colouring will be available at the Pie Factory exhibition throughout the festival. Including colouring, pom pom making, mask making and more!

A Mysterious Kind of Folk

Adult Pottery Taster session (afternoon)

The class will be taught by Gillian Farrell and Vivienne Yankah, both experienced ceramic artists, and they will guide you through the session and offer support and advice as you work on your creations. Enjoy your creative journey!

Refreshments will be provided (cuppa and home made cake!). All necessary materials: clay, tools, and equipment will be provided for you to use during the session. The price includes firing and glazing of a maximum of two of your pieces. There will be an additional fee for any extra firing. You may want to bring your own apron and remember to wear old clothes.

Experience level: The taster session is designed for adults with little to no prior experience in pottery. It is a great opportunity for beginners to get a taste of the craft.

Ramsgate firefighters charity car wash

Ramsgate firefighters will be holding a car wash event at the fire station on Saturday 27 April in aid of The Fire Fighter’s Charity.

Held in the fire station car park, on Newington Road, in Ramsgate, drive over between 10am and 2pm to have your car washed by crews in exchange for a donation. Cash donations will be accepted.

To help the event run as smoothly as possible, please:
• Remain in your car
• Stick to the 5mph speed limit for all vehicles
• Once on-site, your vehicle engine will need to be switched off, with the handbrake put on, ready for your car wash

Margate Songbook – Concert 4

A night of comedy and music. This is a seated listening/joining in concert on one level.

These are some of the songs that people chose when interviewed for an Arts Council Grant project that looked at different aspects of living in England. Each of the concerts will showcase different songs so you can go to all 4!

They will be performed by different artists in the area and introduced by comedian Charlie Partridge.

To date, there are: Snottledogs, Sally Ironmonger and Brian Carter, Josh Flowers, Harmony Bo, Morag Butler, Jon Beetham, Charlie Hannah, Ben Faria, Paul Grant, Cheri, hopefully Gerry Colvin and Bob Kenward.

The event is introduced and spun by a local comedian who will explain and pull the songs together in his own inimitable way.

Margate Photo Walk & Film Processing Workshop

Starting with a photo walk around Margate seafront and the town centre, you will shoot a roll of black and white film before returning to The Margate School to process your images. This is a good introduction to the magic of analogue photography.

Using Patterson film tanks and standard photographic chemistry you will develop your 35mm or 120 film. Covering the loading of the film onto the film spiral, mixing the chemistry, adjusting temperature, processing, washing and drying.

The sixth annual RockthePav is dedicated to raising funds through donations for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.

Seaweed Pressing Workshop

Learn the almost forgotten Victorian art of seaweed pressing in this 4 hour workshop. Produce several pieces of art to take home and frame.

Join Gemila, The Driftweed Artist, at this relaxed and creative workshop to learn how to press a variety of seaweeds to create your own unique pieces of art.
All tools and materials are provided!

You will meet at the venue at 10.30am before taking a short walk down to the beach to collect our specimens for pressing. Gemila will guide you through the process of sustainably collecting seaweeds and help you to identify the best specimens. Back at the venue she will share the basic skills for successful seaweed pressing.
Seaweed pressing, like flower pressing can take a while so Gemila will be gifing each participant their own press so that the pressing process can be completed at home (this can take several weeks, seaweed dependent). Once completed your artwork will be ready to frame and gift!

Make a tile to contribute to the Thanet Tiles of Joy. No experience necessary but limited tiles available.

Tiles by donation (suggested donation £2) to support this community art project by Jayne Wright, which started at POW Thanet 2023 with a workshop of 76 people at Margate Caves and is now a collection of over 1000 tiles made by the people of Thanet.

10 Bay Challenge

April 28, from 9.30am, Margate Main Sands

There are two amazing options for you to choose from, the full 10Bay Challenge, which is approximately 15 miles, or the shorter 4Bay 10k!

You will run on the sands and the promenade in and out of 10 bays around the coast. The event takes place at low tide and includes many iconic views and sections which are not passable at high tide. You will go through the stacks and arches along the way heading from Margate towards Ramsgate before returning back. Can you beat the tide?

There will be a great chill out area at the Event HQ on Margate Main Sands, where you can relax before heading off to enjoy the many seaside cafés and restaurants nearby or a visit to Dreamland, Turner Contemporary or the Harbour Arm. There’s so much to take in after the event!

Every finisher gets a unique medal and t-shirt.

Under UK Athletics rules the minimum age for the 4Bay 10k is 15 years on the day and 17 years on the day for the 10Bay 15 Miles
